Certificate of Workers' Compensation Insurance
Copy for LLM
A Certificate of Workers’ Compensation Insurance is the official document—issued by a private carrier or the New York State Insurance Fund—that proves a contractor has active workers’ compensation coverage for their employees. It verifies that the contractor is insured if a worker is injured on the job.
In NYC home improvement work, this certificate must be provided to the homeowner before any work begins, and it must list DCWP as the certificate holder. Contractors who are exempt must instead provide a Certificate of Attestation of Exemption (CE-200).
Homeowners rely on this certificate to confirm they won’t be held liable for workplace injuries during the project.
